Dr. Majid is a nurse leader, educator with many years of experience in research, nursing practice, education and policymaking. He has earned both his Bachelors of Nursing and Master’s degree from Villanova University in Pennsylvania, USA and his Doctoral Degree from University of Phoenix in Arizona, USA.
He is currently the Chief Nursing Officer in Oman, and has worked, and contributed in various activities at the national and global level in the development of nursing practice and education which include continuing education, curriculum development for nurses, and professional regulations and code of conducts. Dr. Majid leads an experienced team of senior nurse leaders at the Ministry of Health vested with the task of providing strategic and professional direction for national nursing services as well as healthcare management and health policy. He sustained a substantive contribution to nursing and it has been his campaign to raise the standing of the nursing profession in Oman and utilised a number of leadership approaches to achieve this goal.
His work context involves engagement internationally, not only with Chief Nursing Officers from around the world, but also with international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the International Council of Nurses, and the American Academy of Nursing. He has worked collaboratively for project initiatives with fellow Deans of Colleges of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officers in the GCC (Gulf Corporation Council) countries and have acted as a consultant and advisor for countries planning to introduce Advanced Nursing Practice.
He is a member of the Global Advisory Panel: Future of Nursing and Midwifery (GAPFON), the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a representative of Oman for Nursing in the World Health Organization (WHO) East Mediterranean Region and a new fellow at American Academy of Nursing.
Dr. Majid has been invited to speak in various conferences across the world and was the recipient of “2014 United Public Service Award for Category 4: Promoting gender-responsive delivery of public servicesâ€, United Nation, South Korea (2014).
Dr. Majid is also the author of a Doctoral Dissertation on Perceptions of ICU stakeholders toward nursing staff levels in Omani hospitals: A qualitative case study (2013) which is available from ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database, and co-authored Shame and blame: An analysis of nurses’ concerns about the communication skills of their managers (2013) and Disability-related content in nursing textbooks. Nursing Education Perspectives (2010).
In addition to that, Dr. Majid is a visiting leactures at the College of Economics and Political Sciences and at the College of Nursing in Sultan Qaboos University in Oman.
